While with every hackathon where are winners in this one CodeDayDC there were so many great starts, attempts at super gaming; one hack that could be used to help the disabled, elders and hospital patients with computing and home automation and even a great start on a pet information website.
So what’s CodeDay any who? It’s a 24 hour student hackathon happening in Citys across the USA that started on Saturday at noon and ended noon on Sunday. DC had six teams assembled to code for 24 hours to develop an applications, game or website and HEF, founder Nelson Jacobsen was lucky enough to be one of the guest judges.
With a number of awards where up for grabs which included a gift bag, we’ll have to find out what was in them and mostly the chance for these students to get a chance to work on something that excites them enough to come out for 24 hours of coding. From all of the final projects that we’re reviewed it was clear that all of the participates came away with something making them all winners.
However, The stand out winners were a team that in just 24 hours came in with a plan, executed it and won Best Overall and the CrowdFav as voted on by the other 6 teams – Big Poppa, Sorry we cut off one of the kids and would let him photoshop it to fix that…)
This team came up with a game that was based upon a ancient myth that allowed players to battle it out with Kali. And, everyone agreed that it was a home run effort and I have to say that they’ve done what some startups never do and that is ship a game that operates in 24 hours let alone a year.
We’d like to Congratulate Viet and Loran and the folks at Apollo Matrix, Inc for a great CodeDay.org #DC
